So TLDR Because game is doing stuff that traditionally was taught to be strickly in domain of super computers. Not to mention when you get into whole physics simulation atop of the AI stuff I mentioned. You can also enter the numeric modifier directly in the text box. You can now drag the slider to select a speed modifier: left is for slowing down, right for speeding up. Click on the checkbox alongside Enable Speedhack to activate it. Thusly increasing tick rate, whilst possible, would require extremely beefy rig if not a super computer to run it even on 2x speed. You’ll also notice that all of the grayed-out options are available now. Unlike most builder type games and majority of colony sims, DF also is running tons of AI calculations to every dwarf and every being in your fortress, down to the minute level. Why does it have to be so unintuitive? Mostly because the game is pretty complex and it is simulating not just what ever goes on your fortress, but the entire world around it. They should just call it "gameplay speed", if the default is "60" then divide it by 60, and have x1, let people iterate up from that. I say, something like "tick speed" would probably a better name, but it is as it is. Originally posted by Arestris:I say, FPS is not the best terms for the "game fps", cos it's not the graphical fps.
